Emmanuel Church is a member of the Episcopal Church. Like all Episcopal Churches, we do our best to live into the promises made in the Baptismal Covenant. From the Book of Common Prayer, pg 305.
Celebrant Will you proclaim by word and example the Good News of God in Christ?
People I will, with God’s help.
Celebrant Will you seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving your neighbor as yourself?
People I will, with God’s help.
Celebrant Will you strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being?
People I will, with God’s help.
Of course, each Episcopal Parish has its own way of living into the Baptismal Covenant quoted above. So if you are looking for a church home, you will find a variety from which to choose. Here at Emmanuel, our building is very simple, our grounds are beautiful, and our congregation is filled with committed and passionate members. We are also very … quirky. We find lots of ways to bring more laughter into our lives and into the lives of those whom we serve. But this does not mean that we do not take our work seriously. Anyone who has ever taken part in preparation for a Mobile Loaves and Fishes run, or who has been a part of a Fisherman’s Follies production, or who has taught Sunday school, can tell you of our seriousness of purpose. Anyone who has suffered a loss, or has dealt with pain, illness, and fear, can tell you of the strength that is found by sharing that journey with others.
We also take very seriously our call to be a welcoming and affirming community. We respect people for who they are, and respect and honor the stories they have to tell. As you read about our clergy, our vestry, and our thoughts on membership, we hope that some of this purpose-filled joy will come across to you. This is Emmanuel … “God-With-Us.” Together, we are doing some amazing things. Come and see.
