This Sunday, August 1st is Reverend Peter Mayer’s last Sunday with Emmanuel Church. Our parish is hosting a farewell party for Peter and his family in thanks for his 5 years of service at Emmanuel. The party will be a pot luck brunch and will be held following the 10 am service in the Parish hall. Join us in saying good bye to Peter and wishing him well in his future plans.

The One-Room Schoolhouse is back for the summer.  This Sunday and cruising all the way through till the end of August, a brave number of dedicated parents are offering quality, fun Christian formation for your children each Sunday this summer.  For more information, or to see how you can help out, please contact Michael Cunningham.

The prevalence of hunger in the State of Rhode Island has reached a 10 year high. Did you know each month there are more than 50,000 Rhode Islanders seeking food assistance through the Food Bank’s network of 285 member agencies?

During the month of July we are collecting Dried and canned soups for the St. James Food Pantry. Donations may be dropped off in the baskets located at each entrance to the Church.

If you are in need or know of someone in need of Food Assistance there is information on the RI Community Food Bank’s web site on food pantries, meal sites, supplemental programs and food stamps.

On Friday, June 11, American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life will take place at Tucker Field in Cumberland.  Cancer has affected many in our community, and on their behalf, here’s a chance to fight back.  Join Team Barbara to support the fight against breast cancer.  But don’t just do it for Barbara and her family.  Do it for the dozens of people we gather with each week who are winning their fights against this disease, and those who are currently in need of hope in their recovery.

On June 6, we will party, Parish Picnic-style.  You’re all invited.  We start the shindig in worship, then we’ll all spill outside and grill, eat, drink and revel.  In the coming weeks, we’ll put up a poster where you can tell us what potluck goodies you will bring to share: salads, desserts and beverages.  Seeing the stuff that others bring will not only make you hungry, it may make you appreciate Communion that much more.  Rain date is June 13, when we will not only start the festivities with worship, but we’ll end it all with the Blessing of the Bikes in the parking lot.
